FAQ

FAQ

  • How long will my tattoo take?

How long is a piece of string? Every project for every client is a unique challenge. There are far too many factors at play to determine how long it will take ahead of time and I don't even get a lot of this information until the project starts. In short every piece takes as long as it needs to.

  • How much will my tattoo cost?

Similar situation as above. Since cost is based on time it is very hard to give you a straight answer until we have designed a project and I don't like to guess. I'm not into making tattoos on a budget, I'm trying to make the best art possible. My prices reflect knowledge, experience and quality, so please consider that.

  • When will I see my design?

You will see your design on the day of the tattoo. There is no wiggle room or negotiation on this. I have far too many commitments to make multiple drafts for every member of your family to check. We make any changes necessary on the day. This may seem extreme but I work best this way, and including my clients in the final part of the design process on the day has proven to be very fruitful and wholesome.

  • Do I need to pay a deposit?

Yes. You will need a deposit for each day booked. No exceptions. Deposits must be paid at point of booking, I do not hold appointments. I need 72 hours notice (I will consider emergency situations and misfortunes if you're genuine and honest with me) to cancel or rearrange your appointment. You may rearrange twice but after that you will lose your deposit also. I commit to be there for every client and you'll need to commit too.

  • What time shall I arrive/What should I expect when I get here?

Good question. The standard time to arrive for is 11am. You will be notified if we ever need to deviate from this schedule. You will almost never be tattooed as soon as you arrive. A huge part of my process is to feel my client's personality and needs face to face and this process takes as long as it takes. We will chat and get to know each other as long as we need to. We will finalise the design and work out placement. We will try out as many stencils as we need to, until we get the right one. You'll feel it when it happens. I will work out what I need to make your tattoo a reality and then prepare my set up accordingly. This process takes as long as it takes.

Please keep your evening clear of any plans and if you're travelling please travel back home in the morning. We're making art, not sandwiches. We can't rush this.

  • How do I take care of my tattoo?

    Please see the aftercare section.

  • Do I need bring anything on the day?

    Yes absolutely.

    You will need to bring:

Comfortable clothes. Please don't wear anything you'd be upset over staining. My work is hard enough without worrying about that. Feel free to bring your own blankets and pillows if you need them though.

Plenty of food and water. And I do mean plenty. Not just snacks. Food. Imagine you're a bodybuilder on a bulk. That type of food.

You will need to keep eating through the day, pretty much every time you're not being tattooed. This is mandatory. This helps replenish essential nutrients in your body, helps to stop you from crashing or falling ill and makes your project go much smoother.

If you're on a diet, make tattoo day your cheat day. If you try to stick to a diet and get tattooed at the same time you're going to have a very bad time, derail the session and feel worse than you than you could ever imagine.

Entertainment. A book, tablet and headphones will go a long way. Don't feel like you have to engage with me constantly. Do what you need to get yourself comfortable and get through this.

  • What can I do to prepare?

Another excellent question. You're on a roll.

Please inform me about any medical conditions or allergies.

You will need to exfoliate and moisturise the area being tattooed for at least a week beforehand. The better the condition of your skin, the less discomfort you'll feel and the better the result will be.

You will also need to detox from alcohol and any recreational substances for at least a week too. This is mandatory. I am disciplined in my work and I expect you to be too.

If this is an issue, we're not right for each other.

You will need plenty of food and rest leading up to your appointment too. Imagine you're preparing for some kind of trial, because that's exactly what you'll be doing. Set yourself up to succeed.

  • Can I bring a friend or my child?

The short answer is, no. A tattoo studio isn't safe place for children.

It also isn't a fun day out for friends and family. Having other people there will distract you, myself and the rest of the shop.

I'm slightly more lenient on this if you're travelling from far away or abroad, however your friend/partner will need to find something to do for the day.

They'll be welcome to sit in the shop, but trust me, they won't want to. It gets boring very quickly.

  • Will you tattoo a premade design?

Never. I'm way past that point of my career. I make bespoke customs only.

  • Can I use numbing cream?

Please just don't. It causes more problems than it solves. I have never had a moment with my client after their session where one of us has said "Gee I'm really thankful for this numbing cream, it really helped the session and was worth the money".

It messes with the process. It can mess with healing. I have natural solutions and some breathing exercises to help you if needed. Plus, you're stronger than you know. You've got this.
